The cost of smartphones is a key reason why.\nSmartphones comprise only 51% of mobile connections in Sub-Saharan Africa and many people who live in areas with coverage still don\u2019t use mobile internet.\nAs of 2022, only about 15% of people lived in areas that aren\u2019t covered by mobile networks, and they are mainly remote or rural.\nThe technology in most parts of the continent is predominantly 2G and 3G. South Africa is in the process of retiring 2G and 3G. But things are changing rapidly. 4G connections are expected to almost double by 2030 to 49% of total connections, the GSMA says.","name":"mobileinternet","status":"inherit","uploaded_to":87985,"date":"2024-06-27 15:13:26","modified":"2024-07-01 14:59:12","menu_order":0,"mime_type":"image\/png","type":"image","subtype":"png","icon":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-includes\/images\/media\/default.png","width":811,"height":810,"sizes":{"thumbnail":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet-150x150.png","thumbnail-width":150,"thumbnail-height":150,"medium":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet-300x300.png","medium-width":300,"medium-height":300,"medium_large":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet-768x767.png","medium_large-width":768,"medium_large-height":767,"large":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet.png","large-width":811,"large-height":810,"1536x1536":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet.png","1536x1536-width":811,"1536x1536-height":810,"2048x2048":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Mobile20Internet.png","2048x2048-width":811,"2048x2048-height":810}},"flourish_chart_id":"","flourish_sub_title":"","flourish_chart_width":"medium","is_newsletter_post":"No","post_style":"owic","show_on_front":"Yes","link_through":"Yes","chart_url":"","background_colour":"#0089AA","text_colour":"#FFFFFF"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87985","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=87985"}],"version-history":[{"count":11,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87985\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":87996,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87985\/revisions\/87996"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=87985"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=87985"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=87985"},{"taxonomy":"newsletter-post","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/newsletter-post?post=87985"},{"taxonomy":"site","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/outliereditor.co.za\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/site?post=87985"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
