The City of Joburg will elect its sixth mayor in three years on Friday following the resignation of Kabelo Gwamanda this week. A member of Al Jama-ah, he was appointed on 5 May last year as a ‘compromise candidate’ between the ANC and EFF.
The city has had five mayors since the local government elections in 2021 resulted in a power-sharing agreement between parties.
